Choosing your destination
Defining your objectives
The first step in studying abroad is to define your academic and professional objectives. This trip can help you develop your language skills. Immersion in this new environment exposes you to the local language.
It’s also a great way to discover a new culture. Living in a foreign community gives you the opportunity to observe different traditions, customs and lifestyles.
Thanks to this project, you can access specific study programmes that may not be affordable in your country.
Search for study programmes
To go abroad, you can find university exchange programmes such as Erasmus+ and BCI. These facilitate the recognition of credits obtained in other countries.
Some institutions also offer complete study programmes. This is a more independent study experience.
Another option is to do work placements abroad. These enable you to apply your theoretical knowledge in a real professional environment.
Compare costs and financial assistance
The financial aspect must not be neglected in the realisation of this project. You need to draw up a budget and financing plan. You need to find out about tuition fees, which vary from country to country.
The cost of living is one of the key factors. It changes according to the level of development and consumer habits. You may be able to obtain study grants and housing subsidies to help finance your stay. You can find out about the conditions of eligibility.

Fill in the registration forms

Obtaining the necessary visas and authorisations
Once your application has been accepted, you must begin the administrative formalities. This includes submitting a visa application to the country’s consulate or embassy. They may require a letter of acceptance from the university and proof of sufficient funds. It takes approximately 4 weeks to obtain a visa.
Preparing for your departure
Before you leave, you should take out health insurance to protect you in the event of illness or injury during your stay. Remember to find your accommodation in advance for greater peace of mind. Some establishments offer student flats. Other types of accommodation are also available.
It’s also important to familiarise yourself with local means of transport. Find out about fares and timetables.
Adapting to your new environment
Learning the local language
To ensure the best possible experience, you need to understand and speak the local language. It is possible to take courses on the spot. Schools may offer courses at different levels.
Discovering local culture
Discovering the local culture allows you to enjoy your stay while gaining new knowledge. You can observe customs and habits. Taking part in the daily life of your neighbourhood also helps you to understand the culture better. You can visit historic sites and explore markets.
