What are the advantages of a school of communication in alternation?

Students in communication schools can opt for an apprenticeship contract. It is concluded between the trainee and the employer for a fixed or indefinite period. The student follows alternating training in a company under the guidance of an apprentice master. The company covers the full cost of the training.

Benefits for students

The student who completes the apprenticeship works 35 hours per week on the same basis as employees. The trainee is entitled to 5 weeks of paid leave per year. 5 additional days are provided for test preparation.

The basic salary varies according to the age and development of the student. For example, it is 55% of the SMIC for those under 18 years old in the third year. The remuneration is equal to the SMIC for those over 26 years old in the third year. The base salary may nevertheless exceed the legal frameworks depending on the regulations in force within the company.

From a tax standpoint, students in a work-study communications school have three major advantages:

  • the remuneration is not subject to employee contributions (up to 79% of the minimum wage);
  • the remuneration is exempt from income tax according to the annual ceiling of the SMIC;
  • the remuneration is exempt from CSG (Contribution Sociale Généralisée) and CRDS (Contribution au Remboursement de la Dette Sociale).
