In a nutshell:
To work in the events sector:
- Above all, you need a passion for the field and a lot of creativity.
- Ideally, you will have trained at a marketing, tourism or communications school.
- You need to acquire skills quickly.
- Work-linked training is an excellent option.
Do you need to go to a communications school to work in events management?
First of all, events management is closely linked to communications. If you go to a communications school, you will have access to the majority of event management professions. However, going to this kind of school is far from an obligation, although it can be a great help to the student.
You could do a BTS in tourism, for example, and then go on to study for a degree if you wanted to.
Why study at an events management school?
There’s no need to go to a particular school to work in events management. You can start a career or even set up your own business and offer your services without having a diploma. However, it’s worth mentioning that it’s a very competitive environment for the same reasons.
So going to a marketing or communications school can go a long way towards building your network. It can even help you gain your first professional experience. In fact, by joining a communications school like Supdepub, you can take advantage of the partnerships that exist between the school and companies to do work placements, for example.
Work-linked training is also an excellent option for obtaining your degree and doing practical work in a company at the same time. It’s the way to gain experience quickly and be up and running as soon as you finish your course. Take a look at all the study programmes available on the Subdepub website and go to the FAQ section if you need any further information.
How do I get into an events management school?
If you want to get into a school to work in the events industry and get the right training, you first need to have your baccalauréat. Then it’s up to you to choose the level of study for the diploma you want to obtain. If you choose to do a BTS or a DUT, you will only need to complete 2 years of study.
You can also opt for a bac + 3 and do a licence, licence pro or bachelor. Most communication and marketing schools generally require you to sit a competitive entrance exam and then an interview before admitting you to their establishment. Some schools, on the other hand, select you by application.
The entry requirements are generally the same for doing a master’s degree and working in events management. It goes without saying that you can opt for a bachelor’s degree and choose to continue your studies much later. All you need to do is find out in advance about the school you want to join and follow the admissions instructions.
How many years do you need to study at school to work in events management?
You can enter certain careers in the events industry with a BTS (2-year higher education diploma). Sometimes you can even work in events management without a degree. However, if you want to rise to a position of responsibility, you need at least a master’s degree, which takes 5 years to obtain.
A licence or bachelor’s degree (i.e. a 3-year higher education qualification) can also give you access to a large number of jobs in the events industry. However, you’ll need to make up for your lack of training with experience before you can land a managerial post.
Which school should you choose to work in events management?
